Chiropractic Care for Knee Pain

Do you suffer from knee pain or restricted motion?

Is the pain hindering your day-to-day or sporting activities?

Do you regularly take painkillers or anti-inflammatories?

Has your doctor told you to rest, but you’ve seen no long-term improvement?

Have you been told that you suffer from arthritis and that there is nothing that can be done about it?

There are a number of reasons why your knees could be causing you pain. One of the most common of these is arthritis and it most often causes problems with the knee joint. It can also affect other structures like muscles, tendons and ligaments.

Cartilage injuries, ligament injuries, and Iliotibal Band Syndrome commonly occur in runners, skiers, cyclists, and athletes that participate in team sports like football, hockey, and soccer. Folks involved in sports that include frequent running or jumping are also particularly prone to tendon and meniscus injuries.

Knee pain is a common affliction in our society and chiropractic care may be able to treat your knee pain safely and effectively, without pain pills or surgery.

Many people mistakenly believe that chiropractors only work on the necks and backs of their patients, and while it’s true that chiropractors are uniquely qualified to treat the spine, any joint in the body can benefit from chiropractic care.

The knee is a complex joint that relies heavily on ligaments and muscles for stabilization. When pain is felt at the knee, a range of related components need to be examined along with the knee joint. These include the lower back, pelvis, hip, ankle, and foot–all due to the direct influences they have on the knee, and vice versa.

Chiropractors usually begin an examination for knee pain by taking a complete medical history, followed by a thorough physical examination, in order to make an accurate diagnosis. Finally, a treatment plan is decided upon by the doctor and the patient. Patients are told what they can be expected to experience over the next few visits and approximately how long it will be before they notice results.

While symptoms and treatment vary from patient to patient, most chiropractors follow a common treatment path to wellness, where the focus is on reducing pain and joint inflammation. This can be accomplished through educating the patient about avoiding things that aggravate the knee, and using heat or ice to reduce inflammation and relieve pain, as well as making appropriate adjustments.

Patients involved in chiropractic care may also be prescribed an exercise program that will include stretching and weight-bearing exercises designed to improve the strength, stability, and endurance of the knee joints and muscles of the knee area. Along with chiropractic manipulation and massage, this exercise regimen can be used to accomplish the goal of helping the joint function properly and increase flexibility.

If you are suffering from pain in your knees, you may be able to find relief through chiropractic that is safe, natural, and can offer a great complement or alternative to traditional medical care. Why suffer with knee pain unnecessarily?
